Mandatory smallpox vaccinations in England are what caused the smallpox epidemics of the 1800s. Smallpox was eradicated due to better sanitation over the years, not because of the vaccine.

Actually, no they haven't. They have killed more people than they have saved, and have been shown to be ineffective against the diseases they are alleged to protect against, in fact, causing those very disease at times.

You're either a shill or not terribly smart. Vaccines have only been around for roughly the last 50 years, which, by your reckoning, means that 40,000,000 people who would have died for each year didn't, all due to vaccines ("BILLIONS" means at least 2; perhaps you think it was even more). Even if you consider the entire world, this is patently absurd. You know how many deaths we can potentially prevent cervical cancer vaccine? About 3,000/year. Does that still sound like a good trade?

Vaccines have done great things in the past. The concern I have is why would the CDC be pushing a vaccine so hard for a virus that has so little effect. According to their own reports, regular flu strains kill 36,000 per year. This strain has, as of Sept. 4th, killed less than 3000 people. At it's trending rate, that is still less than a quarter of the risk of regular flu. The real problem is that the CDC cries wolf too often endangering people when a real pandemic occurs.

Although vaccines may or may not contribute to the rare occurrence of GBS or other medical illnesses, I think people still need to realize that vaccines are the single-most important discovery in the history of medicine!!! It has saved BILLIONS, yes, BILLIONS, of lives throughout the years in an extremely cheap way and has created probably the most favorable risk-benefit profile of all medical interventions!!!
