The new Unity desktop on Ubuntu is the subject of controversy in the Linux comminuty. Since another desktop, KDE fell from grace with the 4.0 release, many people migrated to GNOME, and it is the default desktop for many distros. There are many choices in Linux so users do have options. Don`t like the desktop? Switch. Tired of the a certain distro? Use another. Debian for many reasons is a giant in the Linux community as other distros are based on it. Others include Slackware, Red Hat and Suse.

You mean Ubuntu switching to qt apps? thats all i can think of what you could be referring to other than ubuntu's switch to Unity. Its called Arch Linux. I myself havent tried it. Jordan of ThisWeekinLinux uses it.
