-EDIT-

I'm glad this video turned out so popular, although I still wonder how. I guess it speaks to Kurosawa's powerful work, which transcends both time and place even though the setting of his film is so specific and the conflict seems to be on so small a scale. Maybe it also has to do with Brian Eno, a musical wizard in his own right.

Anyway, thanks for watching and please check out Kurosawa's work. And while you're at it, look into Yasujiro Ozu and Kenji Mizoguchi, the other two Japanese directors who are legendary even in the West.

  • idk if you made this, but if you did amazing job. we watched this trailer in film history and having seen this movie before, it totally nails it!

  • Glad you enjoyed it. I did indeed make it, although it was first posted by my earlier account, CentipedeV.

  • Nice piece of music. Who's it by?

  • That would be "The Big Ship", by Brian Eno.

  • Xyome, you are right. Kurosawa's works may seem stylized, (by today's standards), but his ability to make use of the entire camera frame, dramatic camera angles, quick POV shifts, and action shots that rival modern movies, made him a director that any student should study, today. Plus, the story line of this movie is a favorite, and shows something that I've always loved about Japanese philosophy: no one seems to be All Bad or All Good, which is refreshing to a person of euro descent, like me!

  • Awesome.
