Every Girl Is Beautiful / Self-Esteem PSA Video. Ad about young girls and new self-esteem fund. Producer: Dove. Creative Commons license: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike

Young girls talk about body image and self esteem. Dove's message: Things won't change until we change them. The Dove Self-Esteem Fund. Whether it's models that wear a size 2 or movie stars with exceptional curves, beauty pressures are everywhere. And when young girls find it hard to keep up, low self-esteem can take over and lead to introversion, a withdrawal from normal life, and a waste of potential. For example, a recent survey in the United Kingdom indicated that 6 out of 10 girls thought they'd "be happier if they were thinner." Low self-esteem leads to introversion, a withdrawal from normal life and a waste of potential. For too long, beauty has been defined by narrow, stifling stereotypes. Women have told us it's time to change all that. Dove agrees. We believe real beauty comes in many shapes, sizes and ages. That is why Dove is launching the Campaign for Real Beauty. Dove's global Campaign for Real Beauty aims to change the status quo and offer in its place a broader, healthier, more democratic view of beauty. A view of beauty that all women can own and enjoy everyday. Over 50% of women say their body disgusts them (Dove Internal Study, 2002). The body fat of models and actresses portrayed in the media is at least 10% less than that of healthy women (British Medical Association, 2000) 6 out of 10 girls think they'd "be happier if they were thinner" (UK Teen Body Image Survey, January 2004) While only 19% of teenage girls are "overweight," 67% think they "need to lose weight" (UK Teen Body Image Survey, January 2004). Stereotypically "perfect" beauty imagery affects some girl's (and some women's) perceptions of themselves. Dr. Susie Orbach (psychotherapist, London School of Economics) has discovered that spending just three minutes looking at fashion magazines lowers the self-esteem of 80% of women. We can help girls to put "perfect" images of beauty into perspective. Let's face it, most of us are never going to look like the models we see in the media. But when we look at images in magazines and on the big screen, it's all too easy to forget the number of tricks that have been used to create them. But a small army of retouchers, camera operators, lighting technicians and props managers have created these artificial images. Let's show girls the reality behind the imagery!

  • @ayjaibai - you are very welcomed!

  • AMAZING!

  • @carebear92693 - thanks!

  • Thanks, some people grow old very early. When a young girl or boy start noticing themselves they often forget who they are in God's eyes. That's why he works through other people. Yours and other's reassurance can make all the difference to the right "little one" who stumbles upon this wonderful 47 seconds. Keep up the Good Work!

  • JohnofAugusta, thank you very much for your comments!

  • No ofcourse not. Maybe I was thinking too much on the surface. Advertising and companies hide a lot of their crimes behind commercials and advertising. Cosmetics industry, tabacco industry, weapon industry. They are wolf in sheeps clothing.

  • that dumb bitch deserves to be miserable if she thinks she's fat i mean seriously what is she blind?

  • @markee871 it's not exactly helpful to call out ANOTHER woman's body type to defend another ...

  • fat !!

  • :)

  • I like what Dove is doing. Instead of only money making over people's backs and health they take the more idealistic route. I wish more companies had the balls and honesty to do the same. I have made a same sort of video called 'Yourself' wich is also made to give a message of self worth and accepting yourself.

  • i love dove commercials.

  • but don't do that, girls... Please. Don't do it. because allot of guys out there don't want to put up with this senseless bullshit and you're going to push us away. Just like girly, clingy, bitchy guys who have no backbone usually push most girls away. It's unattractive and it only makes things worse for the both of you.

completely useless In every imaginable way. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't feel insignificant and unable to help someone, my fucking girlfriend of all things. My attraction to her is what made me go after her 3+ years ago. I'm just saying... it's very stressful. And it kills me how much dedication it takes. but I want to make a difference, I want to make her happy, she's an amazing person and deserves a good person. I want to be there for her.

Any girl who reads this, please, I need you to understand. beating yourself up, denying your own unique beauty, starving yourself, cutting, being depressed over how you "think" you look, in your own mind, you should realize these things make you LESS attractive. And I for one wouldn't choose to be in a relationship or any part of someone who is so down that it brings me down. I'm currently in a relationship like that, and I feel like I can't help my girl at all. makes me feel
