Is that a trash can lid?

At least illustrrate what you are doing and using during the procedure. Otherwize, the video is useless to someone actually wanting to build the same ring light. But it does give us a good idea and we could take a good guess at it.
Maybe your video was not intended to help others build one. After all.... It does not Say DIY....

@7art Not really, the dimples are just scattering the light in random directions which wastes most of it. That's why you see near the end of the video there are a lot of dark spaces scattered between small highlights. A smooth white gloss surface would disperse light completely evenly. Having more surface area is actually bad in this case.

Nice construction work, very tidy.
What level of light do you get out of it though?

I've been toying with making a ring light for a while as I mostly shoot animals where a flash is not a good idea. I've seen a lot of people using LED's but I'm not completely convinced that they are powerful enough without prohibitive shutter, ISO and aperture settings. What is the optimum distance that you can shoot at and what are your camera settings when using it? I wonder whether Xenon/HID lamps might be better?

A friend of mine made the same ring light and the results are amazing. Mr serdadu86,pacmanonline,radinan if you dont have a clue of photography or video and you cant imagine the result of this light,why you comment?
instead of using a hammer to add texture to the metal, spray paint it white for an even but powerful reflection

@kiashadowwave
Metal reflects more than white does and the dimples create more surface

@7art When I tested it it reflected light better this way. I would not have wasted my time doing it otherwise.
Why do you think a white surface reflects light better than metal? It doesnt! Get some aluminum foil and shine a flashlight on it, then compare that to whatever white surface you can find and see....

An intriguing and compelling video. Thank you. I wondered, though, if you might have achieved more light reflection had you not cut out the centre portion of the disc?

just cut a circle strip out of a piece of card like stain glass so it has some narrow bits reinforce with wire and put it in front of any spot lamp has the same effect whats those leds and are they very powerful often they dont dim so not easy to use

@widowsbreath Very powerful, more light the better, you can always adjust your camera settings
