The stretch of land in the middle of New Mexico that is White Sands National Monument is situated next to a missile range (comforting, I know). Buried behind a $3-per-person toll collector is an incredible sight. Expansive, white dunes roll on for miles. By appearances, you'd think you were in snow-covered Alaska -- until you step out of your car and feel the sweltering heat.
You are an idiot. It snows all the time here in the winter.

I went here when we went on vacation a couple of years ago at Ruidoso we went skiing at Ski Apache:) And we decided to take a break from skiing so we came here and it was in the winter so the dunes were covered with a light layer of ice so it was already super slippery:) It's really fun there and I recommend vacationing there:)

Dude, not only does it snow in NM, Ski Apache is less than 2 hrs from White Sands and the top is over 10,000 ft. Much higher than any so-called mountains in the east with their puny 1,000 ft. vertical runs.
