Keyboard shortcuts are customizable, but by default "Q" is toggle quick mask mode. To change it or if your defaults got messed up you can restore them by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts and changing yours to the Photoshop Default set.

I am so impressed with your video tutorials. You make it look so easy, you explain things very clearly. I have been using Marcromedia fireworks for years, moving over to photoshop has been a task!! I cant wait to start having a play around in photoshop, i did try a few weeks ago but was so frustrated with its user friendly-ness. Thanks for sharing, i look forward to watching more of your tutorials.

I'm part of the yearbook staff at my school, and I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of the background. After I get rid of the background in photoshop, I have to save it (in TIFF format) and then place it in illustrator. I was wondering if I used the method that you used, would the white background still show up? cuz i've tried something similar to this, but it never works....... :(

Yes, this method works - it is one of many ways to remove the background. But something you need to keep in mind is that some formats (such as JPEG) don't support an alpha channel, so you HAVE to have a background color of some sort for those format types. Sometimes "removing" the background really means taking out what's there and just replacing it with something a little cleaner.

Thank you for the kind words. Deadline after deadline has caused me to slow on my videos, but if you have any suggestions or anything in particular you'd like me to cover feel free to let me know.
