DIRECTV and JetHead Development showed the worlds first public RVU demonstration in the Entropic booth at CES in January 2010. The demo used a live DIRECTV satellite feed, distributed using SWM technology to the HMC30 prototype Home Media Server. The HMC30 then fed live or recorded streams and Pixel-Accurate User Interface screens using the RVU Alliance's RVU protocol to a prototype low-cost thin-client STB over a coax IP based network using the Entropic MoCA technology. The thin-client was running a software stack developed by JetHead Development to display the audio, video and graphics content coming from the server.
So what is the difference between having the RVU client box or an HD set top box with its own processes? I can see the benefit if the RVU technology is embedded it to the tv itself which sounds pretty good....
