Meet Jack. Please do not judge his appearance in the beginning of the video. You may not know this but I go to an agriculture school so aside from my normal classes like history, science, math, english, and a language, I get to take classes in animal science (like large animal science, equine science, small animal science, exotic animal science, and intro to vet science), plant science (like floral design, biotech, greenhouse production, landscaping), natural resources (like forestry, aquaculture, and wildlife management), and mechanics (like small engines and carpentry).

My school has a greenhouse, 2 shops, and a 7 stall barn with a big paddock. In the animal science department we own 2 goats, 2 pigs, 3 cows (2 technically on loan), 2 cats, a water buffalo, 2 miniature horses, a hamster, a chinchilla, 5 tortoises, a painted turtle, 2 box turtles, 2 rats, a guinea pig, and a rabbit.

Almost exactly a year ago, a friend of mine (who was also in my equine science class at the time), addressed our class about a horse on a property down the road from her that was clearly being neglected. The people who owned him were being foreclosed on and needed to get rid of him. We all agreed that he needed our help so we went to look at him. He was skin and bones, had no blanket on in the middle of winter, he was lame, his feet were too long, and his coat was covered in burrs. He was living in an iced over muddy paddock with only goats for company, rotted potatoes to eat, and a rusty old stock trailer for shelter. We all agreed immediately to take him so our teacher went through all the legal work to make him officially owned by our school. We had him seen by a farrier. We started feeding him hay and grain but he kept balling up his hay and spitting it out and we didn't know why. We had the vet come in and she discovered that he only had 4 teeth in his entire mouth so he couldn't chew his food properly. We put him on hay stretcher and this high fiber hay substitute called dengi. He started gaining weight however, people passing by the paddock every day saw this skinny horse and didn't think we were feeding him so they left a whole bucket of oats, a whole bag of apples (with the stickers still on them), and a bundle of carrots with the rubber band still around them. We noticed it early enough and thankfully he didn't get sick. Even though we didn't know how old Jack was, we knew he was old. He died last Wednesday. Jack (also known as Diablo for his mustache) touched all of our hearts and we all miss him very much :( Jack, considering all you went through you had such a kind soul and was an overall amazing horse. We were so lucky that we were able to give you that second chance that you had been waiting for. I love you jackers(: My friend Kim is the one who really stood up and cared for Jack. When the school said they couldn't keep him for very long she took time to raise as much money as she could to take care of him and took care of him all summer and fall at her boss's barn. She'd stop at nothing to make sure he'd always have what he deserved all along(: She has a big heart and is truly an inspiration to us all(: RIP Jack

The video goes in order from when we first got him to this last fall(:
