wow, Flood at 0:40 :> I met him during music producers workshops a couple of months ago :)

About this whole microphone issue, do you hear any problems with the recording? Listen to the actual song a few times, I don't think there was an issue and that's what actually matters.
-
@SophieCharlemagne honestly....and besides, god forbid jonsi has to get in the booth for a few vocal takes IF his mic adjustment actually 'ruined' those vocal takes....i dont think they were in that giant hall to get a nice room sound on his voice, people.........youtube is depressing.

everyone is so stubborn on Youtube
fighting about a mic ... REALLY?
It's like Jonsi had killed someone moving this mic
RELAX!
-
omg... his mouth is not a cab, is not still, so moving a mic makes absolutely no shit...
and i think he moves it because it was in a "non-confortable" (sorry i'm not english) position for him to sing.
-
My point was that he's done so much recording on his own that he knows where the mic should be in order to get the right sound. Hence I his words: "I think mic placement is really important. I spend quite a lot of time just moving mics slightly to get the right sound." If he knows this, do you really think he would move the mic for no reason? And he probably got confirmation that it sounded alright. I could bet money that he didn't get "told" not to do it again. He IS a sound technician.

@Yoshi5020 you fucking idiot.. have you worked in a serious studio before ??? i did for years and i can tell you he would have been told (nicely) not to do that again.. think about it.. he can't "hear" what the mic picks up can he ?? so how would he know where to move it to ?? he was so rough too.. i shuddered.. those mics costs thousands, even 10K + for a vintage classic and they are fragile.. the "talent" isn't encouraged to touch them believe you me.. but whatever.. keep making shit up.

some people make disgusting things, like war.
they make music

See the other comments on here if you haven't already. Jonsi adjusting the mic actually goes to show what a master he is. He's not like some other stars who are escorted to the spotlight and don't know a thing about what's going on around them. He's had to build his band from the ground up, and because he's so particular, has been involved in every aspect. Listen to the incredibly subtle self-made "Riceboy Sleeps" to get a sense of that.

@elderon87 Actually, he does know a bit about mics, being a musician and all, and building their own studio. Froum the sound on sound article he writes: ""i think mic placement is really important. i spend quite a lot of time just moving mics slightly to get the right sound. you have to experiment with mic all over the place. we had mics up in the roof, up close, all in different places. we're always moving the mics slightly to get the sound that we like...."
