  • I was just thinking about this movie when I heard Hurricane Irene was going to New York City and New England. My prayers go out to the people affected by Hurricane Irene.

  • Written, I believe, by the same guys that wrote Mutiny on the Bounty- and Jon Hall -born in Tahiti-was the nephew of one of the Authors

Anyway, great story, beautiful cast, classic hollywood, great villains, wonderful special effects for the day. Was there any one better than C Aubrey Smith, more beautiful than Dorothy or more handsome than Jon Hall?

    All gone now. Sniff Sniff.

  • Just saw this film on Turner Classic Movies. It's a good one, a great period piece. Great action climax. I've heard this film was greatly responsible for putting the enchantment of the South Seas into the public's mind which eventually led to so-called "tiki culture" in the '50's and '60's.

  • TBS occasionally shows this movie; it's an engrossing love story with several exciting action sequences. The superb 30-minute storm climax has never been topped. Even if you're not a fan of old movies, you'll find this a thrilling experience.

  • This film caused a riot and attempt at gang rape by Russian soldiers when it was shown in a 1945 refugee camp, according to Primo Levi in his extraordinary book The Reawakening."
