"Gott mit uns" ("God with us") might be the best known WW1- and WW2-motto in german and the reason for germans being naively assured of victory for so long.
But it also shows a connection between germany's long christian tradition and the enthusiasm for imperliastic warfare in the early 20th century.
Like the almost 2000 years old, christian tradition of antijudaism(which isn't even disputed by the catholic curch today) and even antisemitism(Paulus, Johannes) ended up in the most horrible crime in the history of humanity - the holocaust.
Despite these very obvious, inglorious involvements there are a lot more which are not that widely known.
Karlheinz Deschner is showing us such ones, by taking a closer look at the episcopate's politics during the 20th century in his twelve-part videoessay "Mit Gott und den Faschisten".
Thanks for the video. Yeah, I would say that sums up the Catholic church in a nutshell: four-fifth's political to one-fifth religious (i.e. just enough religious propaganda to justify their attrocities).
