For years I have dreamed about learning how to cultivate Cypress trees, Bald Cypress. They are an absolutely beautiful tree when they get so robust and massive on the edge of a magnificent southern swamp. Finally after some experimentation this summer I had these 5 little trees come up in my synthetic swamp. The resin inside a nut or seed pod is a really unusual substance when it gets all over the palm of your hands, it doesn't wash off or about 3 days. I wonder if it (the resin) provides the seeds decay resistance so they have a better chance of germinating when the conditions are right?

  • @pineywoods9 Thanks for the comment. I had about 1000 seeds all thrown into some leafy compost decay in water and just left. It was kind of coincidental that we checked the container with the organic soup. The seeds were also frozen for several years in a deep freezer simply because some rodents got to the bag of seeds and I just decided to store it in the freezer until I wanted to experiment.

  • glad to see you have had some luck.i have tried for years to start bald and pond cypress from seed,no luck yet!
