  • Probably takes 60 mins from the car park near to the Scout camp. When you get down into the valley from the track don't cut straight across to the lake as it is boggy but continue NW a bit to loop past some trees then turn north to meet the Inchavore River and follow the river east towards the lake and the beach

  • Lough Dan is just outside the National Park so it (and the surrounding land) would be privately owned. There is no general right to wild camping in Ireland and strictly speaking you should seek permission - but I don't know who the landowners are. If you make a small fire then be careful not to ignite the surrounding vegetation as there are signs of recent gorse fires. Build your fire on the beach and see that it is burnt down to ashes when you leave. Don't use more wood than you need.

  • Paul, thanks for your comment. Hope that you get to camp there sometime. Martin

  • Today (15th September) we saw signs on the pathway leading down to Lough Dan that said NO CAMPING. There were at least 3 of these homemade signs that looked like they hadn't been up for long. Although there were none down at the lake beach, the inference is that camping is no longer permitted. We can only surmise that irresponsible campers who leave litter, make noise, light fires that scar the landscape and vandalise the trees for firewood are responsible for the landowner taking this action.

  • An excellent video, very well edited and filmed, enjoyed it, what a great place :-)

  • Does anyone know how long of a walk it is from the car park ?

  • looks like a real blast guys . and a nice spot too . i was wondering who owns the land , or is it ok to light a small fire over there . i been to enniskerry in wicklow , nice place up there called knocksink woods . i like to be able to light a fire as i dont like carrying stoves . nice video chaps

  • Hi Martin and Sharron! Just spotted this video and enjoyed it very much, especially because I have in mind to get tented up and try to bring my younger boys on overnight expeditions. Lough Dan never looked so beautiful. See you soon. Paul

  • From the sands of Oman to the sands of Wicklow, eh? :)

That beach is a magic spot. I was up above there later in the day on Knocknacloghoge. Superb day.
