Guitar: The Juice Of The Barley

Having just been listening to my own recording of Paddy McGinty's Goat, I was reminded of another amusing song I used to enjoy when Val Doonican sang it, namely 'The Juice Of The Barley'. Here in the Isle of Man as in Ireland, in days gone by, children would go to school carrying a 'pellag' (piece of turf or peat) to put on the fire in the classroom to try to keep warm. during cold winter days. The teller of this tale must have been quite a scamp, boozing at wakes and weddings. lol

thank you so much for this! in the past few weeks ive been getting more into irish and celtic music, especially fun drinking songs and jigs. i found the recorded version of this but no good tabs for it. you played it beautifully and i loved the good old hearty voice, it really helped me find the rhythm.
