As a hiring manager I think it would be valuable to see a Video Job Interview of my job applicant, and evaluate if the job applicant is strong or has job interview weakness. Resume review and phone interviews are part of job interviewing for hiring managers, but actually seeing the job candidate on video and responding to job interview questions would add a valuable element not previously available. It also reveals the level of job interview preparation by the job seeker, a great quality.

Some advantages of viewing a Video of job seekers for a hiring managers are:

More valuable job seeker information with minimal time requirements.
A test of the job applicant ingenuity and ability to use current technology.
The advantage of viewing the job applicant answering questions in a somewhat stressful situation and evaluating their job interview techniques.
The ability to see what a job applicant deems important and an idea of what type of end result (The Video) the job applicant believes is a job well done.
For a job seeker there are many advantages to creating a video interview for a job openings. Most importantly it would show great ingenuity, as I have not seen anyone do it yet. Here a few other advantages that comes to mind:

Showcase your ability to use current technology.
Your Video Job Interview can be produced to highlight your strengths and accomplishments, and targeted to impress hiring managers.
The advantage of marketing the video to hiring managers via social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
Your video link can be marketed in your e-mail signature.
Gaining a competitive edge.

This is where I need some help. Is a job interview video a good idea? Can it improve your job interview skills and help with answers to job interview questions? Please make comments, and do not be afraid to be critical. Is the video job interview a valuable job interview tips. I am the Chairperson of the Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of the Financial Executives Networking Group (FENG) and am testing the Video Job Interview for the group. Any feedback will help us improve on using YouTube Videos in your job search.

  • I think it's a great idea. If I was looking for a position - I'd have a video. My only suggesstion would be to have the candidate make eye contact with the interviewer during the questioning, and then invite the person to make a personal invitation to whoever else may be watching: Here sincere interest in the person asking the questions, and not on the camera may seem a little more genuine. It may also be a good way for companies to put out videos of a position they're looking to fill.

  • Tobias4 Toyotas, I agree with you and Becky, and have produced another Video Interview, with a different candidate. In this Video, the candidate and I maintain eye contact. I will be posting this Video on Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for your advise, it was very helpful.

  • if som1 is still seeking try veriz.info

i found mine just after two weeks!

  • This video interview concept is definitely an idea that is sure to stand out to to employers, and hiring organizations, and with this terrible job market, certainly could not hurt to try. It's probably also an excellent way for job seekers to get some practice for all future job interviews. My only suggestion would be for the interviewee retain eye contact w/ the interviewer (opposed to looking at the camera), as if she were in a "real" interview. Great overall idea though!
