A Red Line train I boarded at Wilson today happened to run express from there to Loyola, in order to make room for another northbound train which had "bunched up" immediately following. Here is the view of the fast run, showing the stations skipped (Lawrence, Argyle and Granville are not seen here, however). This section of line is on a viaduct built in the 1910s-1920s and in dire need of replacement, and scheduled for such soon. It once carried North Shore Line interurbans and short freight trains headed for Milwaukee Road street running to the south, in addition to 'L' trains, and now carries the Purple Line Express north to Evanston and Wilmette in addition to the local-stopping Red Line. The people waiting for their train at the stations we skipped certainly were not too happy!
