Hi,
When i am playing golf my shots tend to start off straight however the ball then tends to dift to the right. Any reason why this might occur?

This is great stuff. Great explanation of a proper grip.

I videotaped myself the other day I noticed that my right hand v points past my left shoulder and when I try and get the v's both pointing to the right a bit it feels very uncomfortable for my right hand... is this going to be normal until I get used to it? What is the bad thing with the v on the right hand pointing to left shoulder instead of right of ear/shoulder?

Hi, Shawn I have a double jointed thumb on my left hand I am right handed. Today I played golf . I was a mess shanking the ball.not connecting just poor shots. I had problems with my first knuckle on my little finger of the left hand,it's always swollen after playing;but today I changed my grip to a baseball grip and was making great contact, my drives were going just as I swung. My hands pushed against each other making the club and my hands as one really felt great. Better hing and firm hands

I wanted to say thank you, you make a video that is very easy to understand with all the different angles. I appreciate your videos.

@jwsmith519 Tips for you. Try to weaken your grip to 2 or 2.5 knuckles. Also if you're a RH golfer have your R index finger and thumb almost off the club. Very weak. Its mainly those finger which close the face at impact too much. Also go to Hank Haneys website, register for free, and watch his video on curing a hook. Make sure to do that.

@josephforte I hope you will consider using the overlap grip before the ten finger. If that doesn't work go buy some kind of tape to put on your fingers, put your glove on and use the interlock. .
Hi Shawn,
I have been following your videos and have your DVD set. Ignore the idiots, yours is the best teaching I have found anywhere. Enough fawning, could you explain why I get a callous on the heel of my left hand (I'm a right handed golfer) even though I adopt exactly the grip you recommend? I try to keep the grip in my fingers and not across my palm but it must be moving in the swing. I'm considering getting my clubs regripped with something a bit larger.

@LloydNM Thanks Lloyd! If you go to the home page on my website, I have a full conversation with my European Teacher Edouard Montaz who had the same issue as you do! You will see the living room conversation we had on my blog; Shawn

Hey Shawn, greetings from London, England!
I have a simple question related to the grip and that is, how much of the butt end of the shaft should be protruding from the lead hand, in other words how far up or down the shaft should you grip the club. I have heard some ppl say you should grip it with no slack left on the shaft and others say with 2 inch protruding toward the navel.
does it depend on club and shot type??
Cheers,
Gary

Hey Gary; great question!
Key here is to do what feels solid for you; some play better gripping down on everything like Anthony Kim and Nick Price and others will grip down depending on the shot like Tiger; as long as the grip does not shift or move during the motion and allows you to hinge and release fully! Shawn

A while back I started gripping the left hand as you show and I felt solid and powerful but I had other swing troubles and reverted back suspecting it played a role in my ire. I'm sure now I was wrong and want to thank you for putting be back on this track. The left hand is getting back into that powerful position.
Your vids have been very helpful. That and targeted work on my short game have lower my index from 12 to 8.5 the past few months.
Regards,
Mark
