2001 VW Golf TDI Turbo STARTUP Sound

Just finished the valence cut out and trimming the stock muffler tips from pointing straight down the 45 degree angle you can see here. When it starts it first spits out all the metal shavings a pieces of rotary tool cut off wheel bits before the first puff of smoke comes out. It was 15 degrees above zero today. Listen to the turbo, how it winds right up right away then settles down only slightly. Sweet.

wht's the point in cutting the tips at 45' ?

I was going to add some chrome tips... but I have problems with commitment and cutting my bumper so I thought I would use the 45 deg and have them come out thru the small cutout below the bumper... haven't gotten the tips on yet... thinking of using rain flappers from tractor supply company.

I had some problems with my ex-2001 golf tdi 90ps, some oil was leaking from the turbo in the admission when the engine was cold. I guess you have same problem with your turbo, oil is leaking from the ball bearing of the turbo. When it's getting warm, the leaking stops.

Don't like the look of that one bit. It just looks like two tiny little exhaust pipes. Tips on exhausts look terrible when you can see the screws and big gaps in them so I wouldn't. You would have been better leaving it as it was, it looked better.

Remember the VW advert where all the silly modified cars were crying? Yours is doing that now! You cruel cruel man!
