How to Find a Job in the Caribbean
It is possible to land a job in the Caribbean island, but the competition can be fierce, especially if you are a foreigner. For example, if you are moving from another country the wait for a work visa can last more than two months, according to Tropicjobs.com, a website specializing on jobs in the Caribbean. Furthermore, according to the site, you cannot apply for a work visa until you've actually been offered a job. Despite all that, many people successfully find jobs in the Caribbean and realize their dreams of living in one of the world's most beautiful places.
Instructions
1. Decide where you want to work in the Caribbean. If you're relocating from another country, consider a few scouting trips to help you choose just the right island.
2. Learn about procedures for obtaining work permits, if you are not a native of the Caribbean. Understand that that there may be limitations on how long you can remain in the country as a tourist while you await approval of your work permit.
3. Begin your job search. Use the Internet to search job sites, especially those specializing in jobs in the Caribbean. Beware of sites asking you to pay a membership fee to join. Understand that many sites with Caribbean job postings are free to the job seeker.
4. Consider U.S.-based companies with subsidiaries in the Caribbean, especially if you are a U.S. citizen. Study their corporate job boards for openings. Understand that the entire relocation and work visa process might go a lot smoother if you latch on with a company accustomed to deploying employees in other countries.
5. Use social networking sites such as Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter to supplement your search. Network with others who have successfully found jobs in the Caribbean. Learn from their experiences and ask for pointers on finding a job in the islands.
6. Go through the interview process after you are contacted by potential employers. Accept the job that is right for you.
7. Immediately begin working on any work-permit issues.
