The idea behind this is kind of convoluted, but the sum is that I saw a concept of a plasma weapon that would start out pistol sized and then combine into something the size of the bazooka.

I didn't particularly like the design, but thought that the concept was possible (although I miss-read the combining part). So, I set about trying to figure out a way for a small gun the size of a SMG like a P90 would fold out and extend to rocket launcher scale.

I sketched out a basic layout and then brought it into Maya where a lot of the rear stock was re-thought out.

After blocking out the layout of the moving parts, I started adding more detail and then added a few extra shades of grey for variety.
My Megatron project (still working on it) certainly gave me practice for transformations when I came to make this.

Since it's a plasma-based weapon, the ammunition is fed via energy cells, so all I needed to do was have it feed from a larger energy cell for the launcher mode.

The extending mandibles in the front are supposed to focus the plasma via either a magnetic field or just re-energize it as the plasma leaves the main barrel. (whee, look at the technobabble. . . .)

  • If you put so many telescoping and hinging parts on it. Wont that affect its rigidity Sure its not an AK-47 But I would prefer a weapon that would work when it is needed. Remember reliability and durability is as good a factor for a weapon as is its firepower. No matter how good your weapon is it wouldnt matter if you couldn't use it.

  • True, but I think that's a problem inherent in all transforming fantasy/sci-fi objects. At least there's not cheats here in the conversion scheme. Aside from the battery cores, none of the pieces ever hide/disappear or little tricks that violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics. (Barret's arm cannon in Advent Children is a perfect example of one that does)

  • @Korium9 The second law of thermodynamics?!?! To put it very simply, the law states that the universe, or a closed system, tends towards a state of entropy over time. Having moving parts that 'appear from nowhere' has nothing to do with this law. ...

  • @klakkaros -- Whoops . . . meant 1st law which is a circuitous way to say the Law of Conservation of mass -- I do that . . . .

  • How can one make a portable FUSION reactor? You accidentally drop that weapon, You, 12 square miles and your dumb little commando buddies are history in one beautiful explosion.

  • lol plasma gu. what next a harry potter assault rifle which requires u to say words to shoot it??

  • i enjoyed this vid

  • interesting video and very informative

  • i enjoyed this vid

  • This is awesome, I don't care what people say about the rigidity of it, I just think it's cool that you actually have the gun transform instead of parts appearing out of nowhere, or "growing" into place. Too many people do that with their Transformer animations...

  • so it reloads to transform to reload again.....ahhh, i geddit

  • @hateman454 its covered in bubble wrap ;)

  • DAMN!!!!!!

  • @Korium9 I fail to see how the conservation of mass applies here either to be honest with you

  • @Korium9 I fail to see how the conservation of mass applies

  • @rivvion Yes but what do you mean by "inverting" and energy source?
