Lexus RX400h that has regenerative braking that works some of the time. when you press on the brake it is supposed to charge the batteries but mine only dose some of the time. Lexus can not find a problem, you choose.

  • Maybe it's cause the battery doesn't need to be charged.

We went to the Taste of Lexus event and the all the hybrids were like this.

  • They do stop charging once the battery pack is fully charged but this happens when the battery pack has very little charge, cold, hot or just about any time. It all started when coming out of the mountains and the battery pack finally was fully charged, from that point on the regeneration has been problematic. Thanks for your interest. Do not get me wrong, Lexus/Toyota/Ford hybrid systems are the best available commercially, just the service is lacking for now.

  • @ 1.22 when you slowed down you can see the arrow point to the battery that means its charging. I have the same display in my camry hybrid.

  • Sometimes if you press the brakes, release and immediately get back on them, it at times releases the regenerative braking and lets the standard system do the work. At also seems as if you were stopping and accelerating frequently, the system is very heat sensitive and and would cancel the regenerative capabilities at any sign of overheating.

  • What does Ford have to do with Toyota? And No, those are not good hybrid systems when the batteries take 1/2 of boot space and prevent you from all rear seats.

Only Mercedes uses very good and efficient hybrid system.

  • Looks like it working based on the display. But you could be braking too hard, and it could switch from regenerative to conventional hydraulic braking.
