  • @theUKatheist Thanks. :)

  • My commandments-

    1. You shall keep thy religion and thy God to thyself

    2. Thou shall believe only that which you can understand and prove [Buddha actually said this]

    3. Thou shall not be deceitful.

    4. Thou shall not be ignorant, stupid or a simpleton. It is thy duty to make thyself the best thee can and contribute to thy nations.

    5. Thou shall not commit any injust or inequal treatment to anyone, including other species.

    6. Thou shall not do harm or stupidity or impede progress in my name

  • The biodiversity of thought. Orthodox ministers have claimed that the opposite of belief is no belief but the alternative to their limited monochrome is a widescreen, multicoloured, multidimensional 3D kaleidoscope of beliefs. In " The end of Christianity ", Keith Parsons mentions Darwins opinion that no one should wish the doctrine of hell to be true. How many christians are embarrassed by that doctrine? Probably most focus," I'm going to heaven, hope everyone will, don't want to think further

  • I found that being brought up in a fundamentalist christian church the voice of orthodoxy driven by its threats just swamped my thinking, at that stage they formed 95% of my thought pie chart but going through life more skeptical ideas are acquired and then listening to videos like yours, Victor Stenger , Dawkins & Dennett then the Bible ideas only become 10% of the thought pie chart. It is about problem solving. Can we see better ways of dealing with the situations in Bible stories

  • I agree with you that it is important to know all the reasons to think that there is no supernatual realm or God. I think the reasons against are stronger. It isn't necessary or desirable to act like Stalin and try to erase religious ideas. Maybe our thought life is an ecology of ideas just like the balance of bacteria in our stomach. If you know the arguments of atheism then the authority of the bible fades to neutral, they were just guessing, ideas from early in cultural evolution.

  • Every matter has reasons for and against. It helps to know all the aspects of the argument to have a balanced opinion. It is important to ask helpful questions and research the areas you are unsure of, instead of just trying to guess. However I suppose there are often unknowns so the decision requires a step of faith. But if you know risks then you can take steps to guard against ruin- insurance, spare tools. People know that prenancy is high risk but they still do it though it could kill mother

  • Thanks, Interesting scepticism, for more see John W. Loftus , Robert M. Price, Valerie Tarico, Dan Barker .I mostly agree. In " The portable atheist " by Christopher Hitchens he has an article by Salman Rushdie ' Letter to the 6 billionth person ' in which he comments that morality is more of a conversation than a black and white right / wrong. There are many aspects. If 10 Cs had , " Do not eat other primates or other mamalian spine or offal " then we wouldn't have HIV & CJD

  • God said: "Thou Shalt Not kill", not "I shalt not kill" LOL joke
