Sergeant Bobby Lisek recalls very little about Sept. 11, 2004, the day in Iraqs notorious Sadr City that changed his life.
I got blown up, thats all I really remember. And that it was my best friend James birthday. He was in the school wed taken over from the insurgents. I told him I had to go. I said happy birthday and I could tell by the look on his face that he knew I wasnt coming back, recalls the medically retired Army infantryman.
Lisek and his fellow soldiers were in the back of a Bradley fighting vehicle when an improvised landmine was detonated. The ramp wouldnt come down in the back of the vehicle. They were shooting at us as it burned. My fellow soldiers saved my life that day, says Bobby.
Bobby has spent more than five years working to recover from his wounds, meeting many people who helped him along the way -- including his wife, Mary.
Now he is asking Americans to help other veterans who spend long, lonely periods of time at military and VA hospitals.
