Hey there. I had to watch the video again just to understand what it is you were referring to. I wouldn't call those black hood things "balaclavas". All the Peelers are wearing them which suggests that it's part of their riot uniforms. I suspect they're black riot gear hoodies --in case they have to switch over to gas masks.
They remind me a bit of what SCUBA divers wear to protect their heads.
I'll ask Peel Police next time I see them. Thanks for pointing that out. Interesting!

@MISSISSAUGAWATCH I was speaking of the black balaclavas that they were wearing under their face shields in 27 degree temperatures which can be clearly seen in the video.

There's no difference between the police wearing face shields and hockey players and theirs. No one would accuse hockey players of hiding.
There was a photographic exhibit right after G20 called the Face of Authority that showed officers' faces. Now if they were wearing face guards like the Storm Troopers in Star Wars....

I just did. The flashlight cop isn't Peel, he's YORK Regional Police (and so are his buddies searching those guys). All that's needed is a freeze-frame to prove.

I don't think they were crazy, blackhawk777.
They knew exactly what to say and do to attract attention and LOOK like assholes.
And I know they weren't hippies. The taller of the two birds is an anarchist having admitted it at Bay/King when the first police cars were torched.
