it's so pastoral in Berlin, 1944, what a great sound quality, what nice tempi, just the time of "Ancerl's final performance for the propaganda film "Der Führer schenkt den Juden eine Stadt" under coercion of commandant Rahm, to fool the Red Cross. Ančerl conducting a work by Pavel Haas with flowerpots hiding the fact that many of the orchestra were barefoot. all who participated in the film herded into cattle trucks for Auschwitz on 15.10.1944. Ančerl survived but his wife & son were gassed"

This is my favorite version. It's better than in Vienna in 1943.

Did people go to the concert just to cough in the quiet bits?

@TheWillyJ16 You're thinking of Klemperer.

@UPutTheGayInGangster Not really; just listen to Furtwangler conducting Beethoven's 7th and the Eroica Symphony from around the same time.
