Reminds me of the opening of the Tragic ouverture by Brahms. I think it is exactly the same. Great music nevertheless! Also his second piano concerto is amazing. He deserves more attention!

i have just heard this along with the other parts, what a magnificent work, why isnt this piece part of the standard classical repatoire? a great late romantic 'mega' piano concerto (as is the Busoni) good to be able to lie back and relax in this marvellous work, what a discovery! many thanks for posting mr deviantrake

I got inspired and bought the concertos on cd.
Hyperion (low budget) published them played by Seta Tanyel and the Helsingborg Symphony under Andrew Manze.
Quite astonishing performances as well.
