In this first of a two-part video, Dr. James Sutton discusses the sort of inappropriate behavior in children and adolescents that is extremely resistant to traditional interventions and redirection. He calls this behavior "Desperate Behavior," as it seems to be consistent with the fears, concerns and perceptions of youngsters caught up in it.
In many ways the behavior is survival-based, which accounts for its resistance to change. A need to escape or a need to strike out at others could be examples. The five major characteristics of Desperate Behavior, taken from Dr. Sutton's upcoming book, "Beyond Behavior," are covered and explained in this unique and informative video.
