The Pharisees took God's admonition to bind the word to their foreheads and hands literally and made phylacteries, ignoring the real intent of the command - to think and then do the word. You may not be right about the mark, but its certainly a possibility, and Satanism is certainly far more widespread than people think, with the New Age "Self as God" cults and rebellion against order on many levels.
