50 years after the recording none of what he predicted as a result of Medicare has happened. Doctors are still free to chose where to live and what field of medicine to go into. Furthermore, countries that do have socialized medicine give their doctors the same freedom.

Ronald Reagan made this recording on behalf of the American Medical Association. As part of Operation Coffecup in which organizers would invite their friends and neighbors over to listen to this Ronald Reagan recording. While I have great respect for President Reagan, this recording has been a tarnish on his reputation.

  • I don't want to be the asshole here, but healthcare isn't a right. You can't force people to pay for your healthcare. You can give all that society benefits as a whole thing to rationalize it(I did the same when i supported it). It doesn't change the fact that we don't owe you healthcare, It's not in the constitution that i must pay for others sick people. If you want to amenended it so it does that a different debate. Yeah I know I am the mean libertarian But my facts stand as true.

  • @skeptictom818 What do you plan on doing if you develop Cancer, Lupus, or some other disease that requires costly long term care?

  • @HappyCabbie It's not like I am for the status quo. But socialized medicine isn't the answer. We need a free market healthcare system. Are healthcare is probably the best in the world it's just to expensive, so most people can't afford it, when we allow competition that keeps prices down and people with Cancer or Lupus can afford treatments.

  • @skeptictom818 what about the homeless or unemployed? How do they pay for their treatment?

  • Ronald Reagan was seldom wrong, but on this occasion he was. Every country needs some level of socialized medicine. The NHS here in England ensures that every one has free medicare should they need it. However, like all socialist ideals, it is open to abuse. It''s no good saving someone's life if they're then going to starve to death in order to pay the bill. Keep state medicine corruption free and free from abuse then it's the only socialist ideal that would and could work.

  • @HappyCabbie ObamaCare is inferior care for more money than the status-quo-and you are ok with the Government usurping our money and forcing their one-size fits all healthcare system down the throats of our citizenry. Thanks God, you idiot idea is impossible-for if the mandate is rightfully ruled unconstitutional, ObamaCare is over. It is unsustainable without the mandate, per Obama and his minions

  • @holydiver73 . Yet discussing this is unnecessary, for by every metric ObamaCare is a disaster, just as we knew it would be given Government run healthcare is in numerous countries around the world. In a nutshell, Obama Lied and fools like you fell for it.

  • @holydiver73 your ignorance is epic. You lack anything resembling an understanding of the political implications of ObamaCare. The left has strived for this control for a century. They deem the capturing of control over this bastion of freedom as the ultimate conquest. Once the government controls your healthcare, personal liberty is diminished. It changes the relationship with the Government from citizens to subject

  • @holydiver73

Reagan didn't say this would stem from just medicare, at the "bullshit detector" part he was talking about a federal program for everyone, not just medicare. And the bill he was talking about at the start, was not the same bill that medicare currently is. It included a few more people than just the elderly (go back and listen).

And it is not a right to have healthcare. If you believe in this principle, then you must agree with FDR's 2nd bill of rights.Youtube FDR 2ndBillRight
