Al. Jolson - ur. w 1886 w Średnikach (Seredzius), zm. w 1950 w San Francisco, aktor i piosenkarz. ("Say Ma, listen to this"). W 1946 zrealizowano filmową, romantyczną wersję jego biografii "The Jolson Story".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Piosenka "The anniversary song" z filmu "The Jolson story" została oparta na melodii słynnych "Fal Dunaju". Wykonywał go również Bernard Ładysz. Zapraszam zatem do walca... w wersji filmowej (Larry Parks) i oryginalnej (Al Jolson). Ta ostatnia zinterpretowana dziełami wybitnych artystów malarzy.
Oh how we danced
On the night we were wed.
We vowed our true love
Though a word wasn't said.
The world was in bloom
There were stars in the skies
Except for the few
That were there in your eyes.
Dear as I held you close in my arms
Angels were singing a hymn to your charms
Two hearts gently beating mumuring low
Darling I love you so.
The night seemed to fade
In the blossoming dawn
The sun shone anew
But the the dance lingered on.
Could we but recall
That sweet moment sublime
We find that our love
In unaltered by time.
Darling I love you so.
The night seemed to fade
In the blossoming dawn.
The sun shone anew
But the dance lingered on.
But we but recall
That sweet moment sublime
We find that our love
Is unaltered by time.

What a voice and song! But Jolson's mother actually died when he was a boy.

One of my favorite moments from THE JOLSON STORY and a song that I heard many times when I was a child. It was a special favorite of my folks and when I hear it it reminds of how much I miss them...and I admit it, I cry a bit. I help with a show at the Jewish Home For The Aging near my home and sing it every February in their memory...and I also cry a little bit too. Thank you for posting it. I don't care about dates of birth and all. I just love a song that is still wonderful.

Great post, but Jolson was born in 1886 and probably in the town of Seredzius.

@CarlDuke Of course, you're right. 1986, Seredzius or Średniki. I'm sorry. I corrected it. Greetings from Poland and thank you very much!!! M.
