It is incorrect to say that the only point of communication between the body and trem is the studs. There is also vibration transfer between the springs, claw and claw screws. In addition, flatening of the other strings during double stop bending is not effected by blocking in this manner since the trem will still dive. Also strangely enough blocking can sometimes (not always) cause loss of sustain at certain frets. This is a strange phenomenon that I have seen before and have no explenation for
@hetfield2x4 Sorry for the late reply. I just told my machinist that I wanted to bolt on my aluminum block to the back of the Floyd. I used flush mounted screws and had the aluminum block counter-sinked, that way the screw head would not make any contact to the guitar. there was a HUGE and noticeable change in the tone of the guitar. Even people with tin ears noticed something was different.
@4JayeP so u drilled a hole into the floyd sustain block? i would like to do this as well and am wondering if there's any advice you can give me before i do it as im worried about screwing up my sustain block? thanks
I blocked a Hamer Chaparral using 2024 aircraft aluminum. I was lucky enough to have access to a machine shop and bolted the aluminum to the Floyd. What a difference!!!! If you have a few extra dollars...do it right.
whats the diminsions of the block you used?
