Pasha Bulker warned ahead of grounding: NSW Opp

The New South Wales Opposition says it has documents that show the Pasha Bulker was warned two weeks before it ran aground on a Newcastle beach, that it would no longer be allowed to load coal because of delays in its operations.
The Opposition says the documents from Port Waratah Coal show the bulk carrier was one of 50 ships no longer able to use the terminal because of concerns about the length of time it was taking to unload ballast.
The opposition ports spokesman, Duncan Gay, says questions about the unloading of ballast feature heavily in the speculation about why the ship became stranded.
"The Government's inquiry needs to look at how these warnings may have affected the situation with the Pasha Bulker," he said.
"The fact that the Pasha Bulker was one of 50 ships that could no longer load on the seventh of May, may have contributed to its lack of ballast when it ran aground on the ninth of June."
