I always get stuck at the last part from :45 on. I get to that point then just waste all of my lives trying to get to the star. So all I have to do is crouch then jump? It's so obvious, I'm ashamed I didn't figure it out! Thanks!

That's how I did it too . . . long jumps, and on the first bit, stay to the right. Also, when the cake with the star is visible, collect all the star bits on the screen and if you have enough you'll get an extra life.
