  • @natpjohsnon

    thankyou for your opinion.

arch linux is a system, that keeps it simple, regardless of what desktop manager or environment i wish to use. the arch system is still in tact, these videos were just to illustrate how you can customize linux.

regardless if i wish to use a gui or stay solely within the CLI i still keep it simple.

and arch can be busy, its a mult tasking environment, im FREE to do what ever i want with my arch system!

and the golden age is not over, linux is booming!

  • whats that program all the way on the right?

  • @Scotsman707

    conky, a system monitoring app.

  • I i dont think you just migrate from windows you are just liey but anyway i use arch best shit ever

  • @omeddragon

liey? i take that as lie, and i did just come straight from windows to arch as i wanted to learn linux, and not have everything done for me. but yeah arch is great.

  • Thats awesome. Have the same here with Ubuntu.

I'm very sad because i don't have the time for a first Arch installation ;(

What are the spec of your computer? It's 'cause everything is so smooth while recording with 2 monitors and Compiz effects.

  • how did you split the desktop?

  • What's the name of that effect you use at the beginning to open and close windows? The light sparkle thing? Is it available in Ubuntu?

  • Used Linux like 10 years ago and sometimes betwen my Windows installations, like gentto, debian, ubuntu etc. so you dont play any PC Games, right? Otherwise i cant understand how you can change completely from windows to linux. PC Games made for Windows are just running like crap on any Linux distribution with Wine etc. But... i know that native linux PC Games are running great. But there are like none actually.

  • Arch is an utter delight to use. Actually I installed it on a very old laptop and installed openbox to keep it simple, but there's LOTS to learn! I agree with natpjohnson but not so intensely as he does, haha. Personally, I would love to just use Arch with openbox as desktop environment AND window manager. Simple right? But having gnome makes your system look better IMO.

  • @rhapp2rhyme

glad that i helped you see the light! enjoy, and keep learning! thanks for your nice comment.

  • @natpjohsnon Correct me if I'm wrong here, but lightweight just means that it's configuration and inner system is really simple? Just because he has a fancier GUI doesn't mean it's not lightweight. I mean, the user interface looks like your standard minimalistic gnome aside from the effects, it's not cluttered or anything.

There's no point in debating this, though, it just makes both of us look like tools. :P

  • @thesk8rman765

Im not denying the freedom for people to do what they want to their system, just as I have the freedom to criticize them when they do something stupid. And I never mentioned the point of Linux as a whole, I was talking about Arch. Theres no point in weighting down a lightweight distro. That simple.

  • @natpjohsnon So 'the golden days' of Linux are over because someone did what they wanted with Arch? Seriously man? Stop worrying so much about what other people do with their system, much less making absurd generalisations on a rapidly growing community. (Signature sign of a troll?)

I think the irony here is that you're missing the point of Linux. As he said, he's free to do what he wants with it. Linux is not to bound or set limits; it's quite the opposite actually.

  • Holy crap that is nice! I'm thinking about getting Arch, and I think I'll get gnome also.. Conky is really handsome!
