Proteus is the first of a new class of vessels, the Wam-V, wave -adaptive modular vessels. Minimally invasive of the environment, rather than crashing through waves it tryly rides the thanks to its flexible hulls. Ugo and Isabella Conti, two italian scientists emigrated to California a long time ago have launched it.

  • Stratos,

    when I met them, the developers told me it's confortable to about 4-5 beaufort.

  • as always, the USA Government and agencies & contractors are the best in the world !

  • :)))

    TheDyausPitar, the two designers of Proteus are both Italians...:))

    But you have a point, they probably couldn't have done this anywhere else than in the States...

  • I think the big deal is that they've added a suspension to a boat, to keep it from riding as rough as other boats.

  • Bud,

    thanks for the comment. The project actually has several impovements. The boat design is quite a bit more than just suspension. the two hulls have a joint that lets them bend and adjust to waves. Moreover fuel consuption is slashed for anout 1/3 and the "footprint" in the water is 70% smaller, thus allowing to approach wild marine animals without bothering them.

    Thx,

    Guido

  • stupid boat design

  • Thank you, Italien, of course.

    Maybe some hidden German mechanics in it;

    but then in the end it is always US !?

    Good work, looking forward to new videos from you.

  • awesome idea. I wonder if there have been any vehicles like this, but made to ride like hydrofoils.
