Gallo is our guard llama for our Jacob sheep. Although the dog isn't a true threat, it does show how guard llamas work. I am always amazed at how the sheep know to stay behind him.

  • You misunderstood me completely. I was being totally sarcastic. I was upset how some of those idiotic llama lovers saying flock guard dogs are inferior to the llama. Dogs have been successfully protecting livestock at least several THOUSAND years and still are. I am not saying llama is useless. I agree with you completely about the pitbull. Dogs are just terrific.

  • @brothersixteen so why do you blame guard dogs for what happened with the pitbull and llama?? pitbull is useless piece of shit, you cant really teach that dog anything, pitbull is useless, ugly, dangerous, and stupid! Guard dogs are different, some people may argue how affectionate a pitbull can be, thats probably because they are well fed all the time. Llama may work against smaller threat but eventually you will need guard dogs when it comes to bigger threat..

  • @brothersixteen Llamas are good sentinel animals - their height and alertness let them keep a good eye on their flock. Llamas should not be used as sole guardians, because they don't have teeth, and one 400-lb llama with four front toenails is not going to be any good against a determined carnivore... and certainly not against a pack of carnivores.

  • What kind of toaster did you use to record this?

  • This video was in fact filmed with a llama.

  • Ostriches. Those are dangerous bastards.

  • after reading numerous comments here, everybody in the world that own livestock should trash all their flock guard dogs and replace it with the llamas. Suddenly dogs are useless. There is a video on youtube about a five hundred pounds llama being killed by a pitbull. The incident was witnessed by the llama owner. Llama is such a TOUGH TOUGH AND FORMIDABLE CREATURE. Sorry if I appear childish.

  • Cuvac is right, llamas are good for one maybe twosmall predators (2 small coyotes/dogs), but once you have multiple predators (2+ wolves, pack of coyotes etc., or one large mntn lion even) you end up with a dead llama. 2 llamas are best, or two Kangal, Anatolian Sherpherds, Sarplinac, Ovchartka are best. The larger the predator population the more guardians you need. If dealing with packs you need more than 2. Wolf packs will take out a lone llama or guard dog faster than you can eat twix bar.

  • Llama's are amazing guard animals. they're better than any dog for sure.

my dog used to mess with my llamas. after receiving a swift kick to the face he no longer goes in our pasture. :P

  • lol the Sheep are smart enough to stay behind him.
