Home Canning is often thought of as a means for saving money on groceries. But what will it actually cost you. Dr. Denise Brochetti, Nutrition, has several questions you should answer before jumping into home canning.
I believe that anything you might can in a waterbath can be canned in a pressure canner. There are many more cost benefits besides the literal money 1 person "saves". If you can your tomatoes from your garden, you save the labor cost of growing them on a farm, the picking and packing, the shipping, the stocking, your gas and *finally* the actual money the tomatoes cost at the store. You also burn all the calories gardening and canning. High quality home grown food is hard to quantify in dollars
Why do I hear that canned food will last for 5-7 years and their people say it must be used within a year. All the "so called experts" are saying different things as far as storage time is concerned. How do I get the correct storage life of canned foods? Who's right & who's is wrong? I guess I will have to keep researching.
