I had some work related errands to run (and a stop at BK) so I took the company's super high-mileage 1993 GMC Suburban. Now I know why no one ever wants to drive it. The steering at highway speeds is frightening, you can see at the end how much futzing it takes to keep it straight. The trans is a little wonky, but it's still accelerates real nice- that 350 is smooth and while it may not have a lot of horsepower, it's got a shitload of torque! You can also hear the bang and clunk it makes at 3:41; Whenever you make a sharp left it does that, and you can feel it too, feels like you ran something over.

  • I had to replace pitman arms and idler arms on both trucks of this vintage I have owned. Also a trans in both and both had coolant leaks. But, both engines have been good even approaching 225,000 miles, surprised yours didn't last longer.

  • Yeah I know. It was even driven by old ladies throughout it's life too, I don't know why the first engine went so early but all the others were just poor quality rebuilds I guess.

  • these are such a fun truck to drive but my 93' has man problems. lets say your slowing down to a stop light thats red. it turns green so you put your foot on the gas. the rear end makes a clank and you can feel it through the whole truck. or if you give to much gas and a dead stop to take off it does it to. anyone know why?

  • Probably a universal joint in your drive shaft needs to be replaced. I had a Toyota truck that did the same same thing, the rear U-joint was broken, it's a wonder the drive shaft hadn't fallen out of the truck!

  • Im looking at these for a temporary car for a move. I need a car that can fit 3 great danes in it and I know this car will do the job. However I am iffy on getting one because I don't know how reliable they are. Would you say one of these could run on the highway for a 900 mile journey?

  • I would say if it's in good mechanical shape, it would be fine. Prepare to spend a bit of fuel though. This 1992 model is rated at 15MPG highway.

  • I still have 1985 GMC Suburban Starcraft with 275,000, I dont know if it has original motor or transmission, it was used to be owned by Safeway. Somehow, a delivery vehicle? I'm sure Safeway took good care of it, even A/C works fine!
