Johnny McCormick was a man of few words and many cigarettes.

Sean Cononie used to hang posters around his Hollywood homeless shelter warning residents and staff not to give his friend Johnny any smokes, under threat of "severe punishment ... because we love him." But Johnny always found a way to sneak them in, chronic pulmonary diseases be damned.

At his memorial service on Monday, a friend recalled how she saw Johnny smoking outside the shelter a few years ago.

"Where'd you get the cigarette?" she asked.

" Philip Morris," he replied.

  • You will always be in our hearts..... Thank you for just being you.... You changed so many lives Johnny...... May the lord hold you in the palm of his hand until we met again.

  • I LOVE YOU,JOHNNY AND MISS YOU!

  • Check out my youtube video slideshow of photos I took of the demolition of the Pirates Inn in Dania Beach. You will see a few shots of homeless people. The site will sit as an empty lot, potentially for years. In the final years, The City assessed code violations against the property. The City could have worked with the owners to keep the property open as some sort of shelter.
