Aveiro, Portugal was the home of the world's largest long-distance fishing fleet for more than 400 years. A hard, but proud way of life that helped feed the world. By the end of the 20th century the Atlantic Cod Fishery -- one of the largest fisheries in the world -- collapsed. When it collapsed, Aveiro's economy also collapsed.
Once considered an inexhaustible source of food, the oceans are now in danger of being significantly depleted.
