THE INVISIBLE WAR is a groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of our country's most shameful and best kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within our US military. Today, a female soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire with the number of assaults in the last decade alone in the hundreds of thousands.
Focusing on the powerfully emotional stories of several young women, the film reveals the systemic cover up of the crimes against them and follows their struggles to rebuild their lives and fight for justice. THE INVISIBLE WAR features hard-hitting interviews with high-ranking military officials and members of Congress that reveal the perfect storm conditions that exist for rape in the military, its history of cover-up, and what can be done to bring about much needed change.

Rape is not a result of lack of sex. Rape is something that only a sick, twisted, power hungry individual could possibly commit because it is not only women that get raped. Men get raped just the same. Rape happens stateside when there are bars and clubs to which a man could find a willing female to fuck, so how do any of you sit there and stay indifferent about the situation?

How do you know rape can't be stopped? Do you really think a potential rapist won't think twice and decide not to rape if we have more serious consequences for it and make examples out of people by following through on all convictions? As you said, just this movie bringing attention to the matter has reduced the number of rapes. I'm just optimistic we can do more.
Oh, and any way you insult America is inappropriate, and not to mention random, since it's not like anyone's insulted YOUR country.

If you wrong someone in any way, you owe them penance on their terms. Most of us aren't brave enough to allow ourselves to be at the mercy of someone's ability to forgive, it's easier to just imagine that nothing wrong ever happened. When you are deployed with a someone, you and that woman are there to work together for the good of the command. If you make-believe that sexual intercourse has any place in that environment, you have no idea of what it is to be a soldier.

The military is a gigantic tree of exponentially multiplying branches of command. Being a commander is about one main principle, to avoid all responsibility for the sins of your subordinates. Everything you've ever worked for hangs by the tips of it's fingernails on a cliff of perfection, if you fall into the chasm of doubt then you will never reach the status you once had. If you allow a young woman to report that someone you had showered with awards as a rapist, you become a rape enabler.

Then you have this documentary, while being a noble effort, thrives on the problem. If it manages to change the perspective that our extremely immature military has on sexual assault, then I applaud it. I doubt that it will manage to go beyond the usual means of remedying a problem that won't go away on it's own, which is to label the offenders and do nothing to change the culture that enabled the behavior.

Every branch of the military teaches, deliberately or through subtlety, that we are mindless drones who live only to serve America. If you go out and get a sunburn, you violated America's trust because you damaged yourself which is nothing more than government property. The military does not learn the intrinsic value of the individual and that empathy should be afforded at all times, they learn the methods for which previous violators were caught and how to avoid being caught.

The military accepts individuals from nearly every walk of life and expects them to manage to work together through a strict code of conduct. The effort to evolve with changing mindsets is nearly non-existent as it's easier to just fall back on the old ways. Many young men don't understand that if a woman is incapable of making judgments on her own behalf, any sexual contact is rape. The effort to educate is non-existent because it's assumed that our time tested order is already perfect.

The fact is, the military is a society unto itself that holds itself to a higher standard. If a report of rape gets out, this makes the society that civilians are expected to hold in high regard look shameful. Thus, rape becomes permitted if the rapist has a high enough reputation with their command. By limiting penalties against rapists, rape has become the marketable epidemic that it is. Look to the "responsible" Commanders who sit idly by while we bicker over definitions and human nature.

Isn't it great to know that you can make offensive statements knowing that nobody can ever confront you in real life for an explanation? I'm guessing that this is how you cope with feelings of worthlessness.

I only asked one question, and apparently you and I agree on the answer to it. Drawing the conclusion that I don't feel sorry for raped men is obtuse.
Speaking of feeling sorry for men. Do you think that men ever report rape falsely?
