NY Gov. David Patterson vetoed legislation that would have provided assistance to persons living with HIV/AIDS in the form of rent subsidies saying that he did not see a way for the state to pay for it. The math is simple: Subsidizing rent for PWAs will SAVE money for the state. It costs much, much more to provide shelter for them if they are evicted and become homeless. Sen. Tom Duane, who sponsored the bill, joins in this protest. After all of the speeches, he and a number of activists sat down in the middle of Broadway, stopping traffic in an act of Civil Disobedience.

We're still awaiting news of Sen. Duane's release.
