Men do not need a wali. I agree. If there are elders available in his clan it is more respectful as they are the initiators and the other parties leaders are contacted.
A revert brother/sister will have at least friends who can assist as being the initiator and that friend will have elders.

it is not right to lay blame to any culture of muslims.. In islam no muslim man can behave the way Khalid did. and passport cathy if you dint notice this video was meant to be about how this is wrong in islam not how muslims are.. this is far far from what muslims are.. and beware of nationalism it is kryptonite to islam. through my personal encounters i am disgusted at how ppl claim to bemuslims and yet seperate nationaly.. islam is one nation and all mankind returns equally to God
