Two intrepid researchers dig into one of the mysterious Carolina bays. Carolina bays (www.georgehoward.net/cbays.htm) are more than 50,000 shallow elliptical depressions found along the Atlantic Coastal Plain from New Jersey to Florida. See the unusual "blue clay" at the bottom of the bay above which are found extraterrestrial markers such as iridium, carbon spherules and nanodiamonds. Carolina bays are proposed to be linked to the Younger Dryas Impact Event which may have led to the extinction of large mammals, such as mammoths, and the Clovis people, first inhabitants of North American.

  • Oh lord no, sir, they are not protected -- and there thousands upon thousands of them. Very easy to study in person. Have at!

  • Thanks for excavating & putting it on film.Ever since I read about the Carolina bays incident I got fascinated about what might have caused them.

  • Many Carolina Bays are on public land and are protected...i.i....no digging. On private land digging is probably ok, but keep in mind wetland regulations. If you have access to private land with a Bay, I would be happy to help dig. I live in the charleston area.

  • I have been forever obsessed with Carolina Bays. I only wish i could inspect one as you have. I do believe they are protected from amateurs like myself.

  • im obsed with the indians and this helps
