Now this brings back memories. I was there and used to have a copy of this contest. We did very well. We marched in A&M stadium but didn't do well enough when we got to Austin to march in UT. That was Jamie Callis with the baritone solo. He was pretty good. I wonder whatever happend to him.

actually, a main part of our twirling tryouts is how well they play. most of them are first chair in their section

And I never understood why East Texas bands require their twirlers to play instruments. If a twirler wants to do that, more power to her. But I'll ask, how many twirlers are actually good at playing instruments?

Pretty good for a military band. Can't really address any complaints. I can't believe this was the popular marching style back then.

it still is in East Texas whether it be South East, East, or North East...they are very prevalent...i don't think there are many military bands left in the country. I think many students still march this because they want to and the town would probably riot if they switched. I say let bands march what they want if they do it well whether it be corps, military, or show style.
