  • Although they may be separated in the building, by living inside the city, the low income workers are actually given a chance to interact with the rest of the population after they finish their work. Also, by avoiding long commute time (in which the don't get paid) they have more free time, which can be used for leisure.

There is no dignity in sitting in a hot bus for hours after work.

KDG proposes to give dignity to the workers by allowing them to live in the city.

  • This is not just sad, it is sick. This rediculous monologe makes me feel physically ill. Oh how clever of KDG to realize what a problem these exploiters-of-the-human-race will have when they want not only more than anyone's fair share of luxury, but also to have it without even having to SEE the other humans, who make that life possible. It's ALMOST humorous to hear this condecending woman speak about saving the poor workers from the humiliating pity of the rich. sick.

  • If you listen to the voiceover closely, you'll realize that we are not forcing anyone to live in them. If the renters make more money they are free to move elsewhere. Low income housings are common around the world, and most are poorly constructed and pushed to the edge of the city. KDG's proposal actually improves on the low income housing situations common in other cities.

  • Agreed they are not homeless and we are not targeting construction workers, but 3 year visiting workers. Following the real estate and rent values as determined by free market, they cannot afford to live in the city. So yes, they are hidden, but that's a means to an end. Furthermore, they won't be forced to live in these towers or be forced to stay in and hide.

  • In its first run, I thought this video was downright insulting. But hearing it the second time, I find that there are practical considerations, with emphasis on the design's strategic elements (e.g. like being closer to work thus reducing long commutes and traffic, etc). It however can do without the patronizing tone of the script.

And I don't think this is about Dubai or even a reflection of Dubai.

  • I cant believe she talks about these people as though they are nothing .

  • Why don't they get a whole apartment? Why just one room? It is a nice concept but why do they have share a kitchen or bathroom? What if they have a family?

  • @julianatheory18 100 percent true and sad they should create jobs for these people. or the slums will be created in several years

  • This is disturbing the way you talk about people who are low income, as if your so much better.

  • Awesome, I can be totally oblivious to the toiling of the slaves.

  • I do not like the way the speaker talks about the workers
