Composer and performer, Mason Williams, created a perfect blend of guitar and orchestra that has been recorded by hundreds of artists including guitar legends John Williams, Chet Atkins and Glen Campbell. It's been arranged for hand bells, ukulele, harp and an amazing number of other instruments. Classical Gas has also found a home on-screen as the perfect soundtrack for dozens of films and TV shows.

i honestly think the whole orchestration and excessive accompaniment ruins the simplicity of this piece, its meant to ban acoustic dancing about not drowned out by untimely trumbones etc

this is not to say anything negative about the musicians all skillful just not as tasteful personally. the spanish rhythm at 2:20 that kicks in is great tho

Agreed--the best live version. But the performance where Mason Williams "plays" all the instruments in the orchestra is fantastic too. (actually he's photographed with each instrument, so it's almost like a music video) Saw it on Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, Season 2 show.
