Light and Fluffy Rolls

3 pkgs yeast
2 cups water
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup oil
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
7 cups flour

Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, oil, salt, and egg. Blend well. Let stand 5 minutes. Add 2 cups flour. Beat 2 minutes. Add enough of the remaining flour to make dough stiff enough to work with. Knead 8 minutes adding flour as necessary. Let rise about 45 minutes. Shape into rolls, let rise. Bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees. Yields 36 rolls

  • Cool thanks! I just made two batches for Thanksgiving! I'm sure I'll make another 2-3 before the year ends :D

  • I was watching minecraft and then I end up on "How to make light and fluffy rolls" xD

  • @MrMinecraftPlays This is pretty funny. Not sure how that happens?

  • I am glad you like it! I'm sure my aunt would be excited (it is her recipe). I actually don't know if you could do less or not. I suppose you could try it! The ingredients aren't too terribly expensive. Sorry I dont' have a better answer!

  • I'm not an expert...my aunt has used this recipe for probably over 30 years and i've used it for about 10. Just made a video for some friends that wanted my recipe. It's always turned out just fine for me. Perhaps the salt is intended to retard the yeast a bit.

Tom, it is vegetable, but I would assume canola would be just fine.

  • because I don't have one! :D

  • Thank you so much for making this video! I read the recipes but the explanations are vague. I think now I can finally make a decent roll from scratch. A suggestion though, next time you might want to use a brightly colored bowl so that the batter is more visible. Thanks again!

  • I love this recipe. Thanks for putting it on youtube. I have made it twice and it came out great both times. I like the yeasty taste. In the south there is a restaurant called Logans Roadhouse. I have looked for a recipe for their rolls. This is the closest I have found. Thanks again

  • i prefer to keep gluten on hand and add 1 tablespoon to the bottom of my all puprose cup of flour. its more cost effective for me.

  • Thank you sooooo much for this video! I made some tonight and they turned out just as fluffy and tasty as expected! I've tried several times before and never managed to get them that fluffy! Thanks again!

  • I made this great recipe last night and your right they were fluffy. The only thing i didnt like about them was the strong yeast taste it was too overpowering for us, can u reduce the amount of yeast please reply
