The NorhTec Gecko Edubook is a modular netbook with easily upgradeable/replaceable storage, batteries, and even a modular CPU. But it's not exactly a speed demon. The system I'm reviewing shipped with WattOS, a light weight Linux distribution. And while it can handle some light web surfing and document editing, it's not very capable as a multimedia machine or even for visiting Flash and Javascript-heavy web pages.
Also, since this thing takes USB flash drives, you can install a USB-bootable Puppy Linux 5.1 which is friggin awesome and uber-lightweight. The Puppy Linux USB drive wouldn't modify the SD card at all and runs straight out of RAM (130 MB).

This is good for the price. All I need is a decent browser (SeaMonkey or Chromium), AbiWord, an email client, VLC Player, and Google Docs and Gmail. If it can download the Links2 browser, it will scream across the Internet because it strips pages down to just simple text, links, and images. Otherwise just use the Skweezer web site.
This kind of looks like the LXDE desktop environment. I currently use Xubuntu with LXDE on a 933 MHz / 512 MB RAM comp and it runs okay enough.

How about installing libxvid if you want to play the files with something else than VLC?

Pop the SD card, throw in a different computer and throw the XP install on there.

Great netbook...hope one day a Google OS based machine would be in the supermarket for $50..
A dream, but might come true...
By the way, I was hoping you try windows 7 on it :D

Hey Brad, could you do a video tutorial on how to install Windows XP, on this machine? Is because I have a legal Windows XP CD, and I don't know how to install it, since it doesn't have a CD Port, thanks :).
